3 Cords is a small business initiative started at Mission of Hope in September of 2010, that employs 10 women full time, making braided head bands, purses, and other crafts.
The purpose of 3 Cords is to provide jobs and the love of Jesus to the women that work at 3 Cords. We firmly believe in the principal that says it is better to teach a man to fish rather than give a man a fish. We believe that God created man and women to work and to be creative, and have seen how fulfilling it is to each woman to have the chance to be productive. They feel so proud to be able to provide for their families, especially considering the Haitian culture is one that believes that handicapped people are worthless and can't work. In the case of most of the women, they are the only "breadwinners" for their families, which is an incredibly healing thing after they have suffered so much in losing limb.
